Mother's Day 2014

This year, we celebrated Mother's Day with the whole family in Annapolis, Maryland.  We met up with Grandpa, Mee-maw, Aunt B, Kevin, Grumpa and Grammy for a fun filled Mother's Day Road Rally.  Grandpa and Aunt B had an entire route mapped out, with all of our gifts hidden along the way.  Chad, Mee-maw, Lauren, Charlie and I rode in one car and Grumpa, Grammy, Grandpa and Kevin drove in the other car.  Aunt B drove ahead to make sure the gifts were well hidden at the necessary spots.

The rally took us all around Annapolis and our last stop was our brunch location.  This year we ate at the Killarney House.  They had a special Mother's Day brunch and we settled in to enjoy the food and open gifts.  We gave Mee-maw and Grammy a special frame, hand-painted by Lauren, that had Charlie's foot print inside.  And I got gift cards along with a Keurig Coffee Maker this year.  I definitely need that extra caffeine boost right now.

Unfortunately, Lauren seemed a little off and I became very suspicious that something was wrong when she refused to eat a brownie.  And halfway into the meal, she became very sick.  It was quite a mess and pretty much put an end to the brunch.  Charlie slept through most of the day, which was nice, but unfortunately he woke up right in the middle of dealing with a sick child.

Once we cleaned up Lauren and got her into a new change of clothes, it became pretty clear that it was time to get the kids home and give the other diners a break from our craziness.  But first, the one thing I wanted to do for Mother's Day was to get a family photo.  We waited too long, and our only time was right before we left.  Lauren was turning greener and greener by the minute, Charlie was screaming, and Chad was very stressed.  So we quickly sat down together and Grandpa snapped the picture.  I will always remember this moment, and now I even find it quite funny!

Lauren got sick once more, before we pulled out of the parking lot.  So we cleaned her up again and headed home.  Within 5 minutes both kids were fast asleep.  It was a quiet ride back but Chad and I were a little worried.  Lauren rarely gets sick and we did not want her to pass a bug on to Charlie, since he was still very young.  Once we got back, we separated them and tried to make Lauren as comfortable as possible.

The next day was my birthday.  Chad stayed home (he missed a fishing trip for work) to help me take care of a sick toddler along with a baby.  Lauren woke up sick, but was much better by that afternoon.  And she was back to her usual happy self by dinner time.

It was not exactly how I imagined my Mother's Day/Birthday weekend would go, but it was certainly eventful and I will not forget it.  Plus, next year's celebration can only get better, right?!  =)
