Lauren Finishes 1st Grade

School finished up Friday, June 8, 2018.  We were certainly excited for summer, but first, I want to take a moment to look back on Lauren's 1st grade year!!

She had Mrs. Clyde and LOVED her!  She improved so much in reading, handwriting, and math.  She also loved telling us about the funny things her teacher did and all of the kids she played with, mostly Jacob, JJ, and Jordan.  Lauren still gravitated to the boys and really enjoyed playing tag, sports, and running away from the girls.

During our parent/teacher conferences, Mrs. Clyde was always happy to point out how much she loved Lauren.  She claimed that she never had to worry about Lauren behaving or finishing up her work.  She was also very helpful with the other students.  Chad jokingly asked her to remember all of these things if she gets Charlie as a student in a few years.  ha ha ha

Towards the end of the year, her class went on a field trip to see a play at the Hylton Performing Arts Building.  I was picked to be a chaperone and had fun watching her interact with the other students.  The play was cute too!!  But the best part was when Lauren tried to teach Mrs. Clyde and some of the other students how to do the "Floss", a crazy dance all of the kids are doing these days.

The 1st grade also put on a wonderful musical show.  The theme was "Bugs" and they were encouraged to dress in costume.  I found a bee costume and she reluctantly agreed to wear a tutu if she could wear her Superman shirt and tennis shoes.   Deal!!!!  She looked so cute.

She and her good friend, Sam, were dressed alike as bees.  It was unplanned but quite funny to see.   Great minds think alike!

At the very end of the year, the 1st grade had a picnic.  Families were encouraged to come to the classroom for "End of Year" awards and then we headed outside to eat.  Lauren received the Friendly Neighbor award because she was always helping other students and her teacher.

MeeMaw, Grammy, and Grumpa joined us for the picnic.  They were able to see Lauren's classroom and watch her with some of the other students.  We picked up subs and found a nice shady spot outside.

On the last day, we woke up early so we could get some good "Last Day" photos.  Chad had to go to work early, so Charlie tried his hand at taking pictures.  He did a pretty good job too!  I managed to get some photos when she came off the bus, including one with her friend Sam, and Lauren got another award...Ms. Sports!!  I would say that Mrs. Clyde really knew our Lauren.

It really was a great year.  Lauren grew so much, but we were ready for a few months off to relax and have some fun.  Bring on summer!
