The Beginning of Our Forest Project

Right in the middle of my deck project, Chad decided to tackle a few dead trees in our backyard.  One big tree simply died and a few smaller trees fell over, onto our shed, after a storm.

Just as he was about to head out with his saw, a truck pulled up and some tree guys approached him.  They said that they saw the big dead tree in the back and asked if he wanted some help.  Usually Chad is one to do the job himself, but that tree was HUGE.  Also, he had gotten a horrible case of poison ivy, while cutting down another tree, a few weeks before.  He was not anxious to go through that again.  So we hired the tree guys.

What started out as taking down a few trees, turned into taking down every dead tree in the woods behind our house, along with pulling all vines, removing all stumps, and clearing the brush.  That was a project that would have easily taken us 10+ years.  These guys did it in 2.5 full days of work.

Here are some photos of the amazing transformation:

There is still so much more to do back there.  We need to spread out the wood chips, created from shredding all of the dead stuff.  And eventually, I would love to do some walkways between the trees and some wooded landscaping, but that is a project for the next few years.  For now, it just feels so much better to have all of the dead stuff out of there.  I can actually breathe when I step out in the woods and I can now see fence lines that I never even knew existed.   Our backyard feels like it actually has some potential to be amazing one day!!
