Once again, we were very excited for one of our other favorite trips of the summer...our annual Deep Creek Lake weekend at the Blough's cabin. This year, we headed up at the end of July and settled in for a cool and rainy weekend. The weather did not matter one tiny bit, because a rainy day at the lake is so much better than a sunny day at home. There is something about that little cabin, the lake views, and the sounds of boats on the water that bring a deep sense of peace.
This year, the Ackermann's could not join us. They were greatly missed, but the Blough Family, the Rodriguez Family, Captain Rick, and the Fisher Family tried to squeeze as much fun into the weekend as possible. There was swimming time, a boat ride, games, and karaoke singing. But most importantly, there were jet ski adventures. The jet ski was a new addition this year, and the kids were so excited. Heck, so were the grownups. Lauren and Jack both got to go out this year, and they loved it!!
Charlie, in an effort to keep up with the big kids, flipped off a raft, and freaked out. He flipped over and basically turned his body upside down in the water (despite wearing a life vest). We quickly got him out of the water and calmed him down. I thought he would never step foot in water again, but later that day, the crazy kid said that falling off the raft was his favorite part. I can assure you that was not one of my favorite parts, but I am glad he is not traumatized from the experience!!
It was a weekend filled with fun, relaxation and many laughs. Each year, we come to the lake stressed from every day life, and we always leave relaxed and content. This year, we realized that Adam, Rick, and Chad have been coming to the lake together since college, nearly 20 years ago. Chad and I have been coming to the lake for at least 10 years, and our kids have been coming since they were babies. I love that they get to spend so much time together and hope that they will continue to build these wonderful memories in such an incredible spot!
