Seeing as how this was Mary Quinn's first summer, it was very important to me to be there for her first beach visit. I clearly remember Lauren's first dip in the ocean. She was very chill and just kind of went with the flow. I also remember Charlie's first dip in the ocean. He was not as chill and cried most of the time. So I could not wait to see how Quinnie did!!
Mee-Maw, Aunt Sarah, Qunnie, Lauren, Charlie, and I packed up the cars and headed to Assateague, MD on June 24, 2016. We set up our spot and Lauren immediately dragged Mee-maw down to the water. And it took a lot of work to convince her to get out of that water for the rest of the day! Charlie was much more hesitant and preferred watching Lauren while playing in the sand.
The water was pretty cold, which should be expected in June, but that did not stop the fun. And then it was Quinnie's turn to take a dip in the cold water. She did great, just like her big cousin Lauren. Very chill and just took it all in!!
After that, it was lunch time and everyone headed back up to our beach spot. We were still using the beach towel I remember using as a child. It is a large blanket with what I remember as funny pictures of little boys/girls. It smells of coconut oil. And brings back memories of tuna sandwiches/cold sodas on the beach, wearing oversized t-shirts to prevent sunburn, and watching Grandpa alternate between naps on the blanket and playing with Aunt Sarah and I in the water. It is my favorite beach blanket in the world, and I love that my kids get create their own memories on that blanket!
Quinnie alternated between eating and chilling in the shade. She was very content and I have a feeling she will become quite the beach girl!!
I had a great time at the beach with everyone. Beach time these days is very different with little kids, and while I still enjoy a quiet day, with just a towel and a good book, I wouldn't trade these memories for anything else!
This might have been our first beach visit of 2016, but it certainly wasn't our last!!!
