This year, Chad turned 40! He is NOT a birthday person, when it comes to his own, and just wanted to sit in a dark basement, by himself, and watch college basketball. Normally, I would agree. He is the birthday boy after all. But not this year!!
Instead, I organized a fake birthday party for Lauren, as an excuse to get him out of the house. Then, while we were at the ice skating rink, MeeMaw, Grammy, and Aunt Sarah were back at the house, decorating, and the guests had started to arrive.
I actually think we pulled off the surprise as well!!
We went with a "Cheers and Beers to Chad's 40 Years" theme, and had a taco bar, a dessert table and plenty of appetizers.
As part of Uncle Kevin's gift, he found a paper mache deer head and painted it in Maryland Pride colors. We call him "Brau Tine", which is play on the word "Brow Tine, which is the name for the forks on deer antlers. He proudly hangs in the basement bathroom and we love him!!!!
Downstairs, in the King Charles, we had plenty of drinks, college basketball (see he did get a small part of his birthday wish), and a photo booth. I created large heads with Chad as a baby, Chad as a boy, and Chad today. People used them, along with "old guy" props in the booth. Since, we also have 2 other friends who were turning 40, within a week of Chad, I also created their big heads as well. Unfortunately, they were unable to make it to the party, but that did not stop us from using their props as well! =) This photo booth was a big hit and boy did we have fun looking back at all of the pictures. See below for a glimpse of the fun...
Some of our friends and family were not able to make it to the party, but I still managed to get them in a picture with the large Chad heads!!! Those props have been so much fun! =)
Happy 40th Chad!! I know it wasn't exactly what you asked for, but I hope you enjoyed your celebration anyway. I also hope you know how much we love you and appreciate all that you do, every day, to take care of this family. I don't know what we would do without you, and I am so glad we were able to give you a day surrounded by friends, family, food, beer, and laughter!!!
