We got there Friday afternoon and spent the evening relaxing, and celebrating Meemaw's birthday!
It was very cold out, and we had to take turns heading into the little heated cabin to warm up. Luckily, we all remembered to bundle up. =)
That afternoon, Aunt B and Grandpa headed out to ski, while Meemaw, Grammy, Lauren, and I went tubing. It was our first time and we had so much fun. It even snowed while we were out on the hills. We flew down the slopes, and were covered with snow by the end!!
Meanwhile, the boys (Grumpa, Chad, and Uncle Kevin) were having some fun of their own back at the cabin. They took Quinnie and Charlie back home for lunch and a nap. While the kids slept, Chad and Grumpa decided to have a little fun and tied Uncle Kevin's underwear to the flag pole outside. He did not realize his underwear was out there until the next day, and the rest of the house had a good laugh at the newest development in the Falicroft Underwear Wars (Note: this war began back when we moved into our house in Gainesville, VA). Don't worry, we held a nice ceremony to remove the frozen underwear. There was a lot of pomp and respect
It snowed about 6 inches on Saturday, so the kids enjoyed some time in the snow on Sunday morning. Nothing like fresh snow to entice kids outside!!

That afternoon, we took Lauren up to the slopes to try her hand at skiing. We rented our skis, headed out to the bunny hill for practice, and after a few attempts, she took off. The best part was when Uncle Kevin skied into Lauren and they both went down. Luckily no one was too hurt and they were good sports about it. =)
The rest of the day, I was a nervous mommy, mostly because it had been quite some time since I last skied and I did not want her getting too far ahead of me. However, I quickly realized that Aunt B was with her, and they had everything under control. Meemaw and I kept up the rear and we only fell a few times. At one point, we did get off of the lift at the wrong spot and had to walk up half of the mountain. That was no small feat with those silly ski boots. Ughh But most importantly, I did not yell out any bad words. So, I consider that a skiing success!!!
Lauren was out on the slopes for over 7 hours and once it was dark, we had to drag her off the mountain. She collapsed as soon as we got home and we realized that she was a bit dehydrated. Yet, she would do it all again in a heartbeat, and surprisingly, so would I. I was very impressed with her balance and fearlessness. What a little athlete she has become!!
It was a great weekend, and I certainly hope we make this a Falicroft tradition every winter. It is nice to get away and there is something fun about getting outside, in the snow, to enjoy some winter sports. Maybe next year, we can get Charlie out on the tubing slopes!!
